I'M BAAAAAAAACCCCCKK BLOG
Resting B**chface cursory black and white selfeh.
Hello all,
Apologies for my absence from May (SMH) 2016 wasn't the easiest year for me due to ill health and the usual human afflictions, but like Mark Morrisson, I've returned!
Rather than a long rambling blog about everything that I did last year, let's keep it all about the future and what's in store at Emily Catherine Illustration at Treehouse HQ.
So, February, what have we in store?
Well we're still in the final two weeks of Surface Gallery's International Postcard Show which is an open submission (in artfart terms that means that anyone can be exhibited) exhibition showcases the weird and wonderful from all over the world in postcard form. I hastily and lately (classic me) submitted my 'Anatomy of Woman' and ''Lowits' designs. I had a walk around the gallery and it's just as fantastic as always:
International Postcard Show 2017 runs from 14th January - 11th February and is FREE!
International Postcard Show 2017 runs from 14th January - 11th February and is FREE!
''Lowit' means to 'allow it' or 'let it go' (like Frozen?) so I thought I'd play on this well known brand of sweets and offer one to anyone who really needed to chill out and stop worrying.
There's too much pressure to compete and be 360degrees of perfection in the eyes of men and our fellow females in this life. So, like Da Vinci's Anatomy of Man I thought I'd upgrade the ethic. It's not the flesh of a person, it's the soul. Positivity is just as catchy as negativity, so I try to infect as many people with a plague of that as possible. Consider me a rat to a buboe.
Also still available is this months free copy of LeftLion magazine and this month it was PACKED with a veritable feast of info nuggets. The Anti Gallery, Trekkah and Ronika all feature in this issue but my pride and joy, an illustration I did for their De La Soul interview went to press. You can read the interview here (if you lazeeehhh) https://www.leftlion.co.uk/read/2017/february/de-la-soul but in the meantime, here's the process of how I created the illustration:
Pos's face came first as the interview was with him only, so I positioned him in the middle!
I wanted to show each member as their current ages, not in their 'Heyday', they're not 'legends' they're awesome now!
All my sketches start a bit odd. I colour 'white' first!
Oh Hello Dave ... How many fingers are you holding up? Three? Is there anything special about that number? Smagic!
Oh Hello Maseo! I realised when I drew Maseo that he has the most cute babyface I have ever seen.
Morning! Ready to paint!
The plantpot men in the colours of Three Feet High and the flower pots from De La soul is Dead, all incorporated...
Daisy age Peace sign and the man from And the Anonymous Nobody goes in...
THREE FEET HIGH AND DRYYYYIIIINNG Hahaahaahah!
Finished and ready for LeftLion approval! Plug Wone (Pos) retweeted and liked it! I'm excited for them to see it in real life!
And last but not least we all know that it's that time of year that I loathe. Valentine's Day. I loathe it not because I don't believe in love, but because whether you're single or in a relationship you walk around on that day looking at couples and comparing yourself to them, or trying to think of something 'nice' to do for your partner whilst comparing yourself to others. Or, you spend it with friends, acutely aware that you are avoiding Valentines Day. It's annoying. Like April Fools day where you're on the edge of your seat hoping someone doesn't give you a wedgie, Valentines Day is the emotional equivalent.
Having said that, I have tardily pulled my finger out of my proverbial to create two brand new Valentines Day card designs which represent that squishy side of Emily Catherine.... she's in there somewhere:
'WHY DO BIRDS' A5 Valentines Card £3.50 available in Shop> Cards
' #JUSTICE + LUCKY' A5 Valentines Card £3.50 in Shop> Cards. This card is based on the 1993 Film Poetic Justice directed by John Singleton. The best couple goals!
So as you know I like to leave the blog with a non-work farewell and this month it's a humdinger. You get two, actually.
I went to Mexico for Christmas and got stung by a scorpion. It hurt well loads. I do not recommend. Sadly for you, I survived....
I hate this guy.
and lastly I once had to make my mouth look like a vagina for a video for a friend. Here's the outtake. I said I was BBBBAAACCCCKKK.
Happy February! Check out the new updated gallery for all 2016 past news and see you in March. Treehouse HQ over and out!
